Incidentally, the suite upgrade feature is something that the online VIP check-in should be giving an option for. Hilton could fix this issue pretty easily if that was the case.
I did not say you should have to ask, but it seems to be the trend. I book my room, then call the day of and ask about an upgrade. If I get it, great (usually I do).
FWIW, the HH program has been flawed like this for quite some time, and upgrades are given to both elite tiers it appears per their T&C. When available. Which are the key words. Everybody would like the hassle free easy upgrades where you check in, they say "Thank you Mr So and So for being a Diamond, we have upgraded you". Sadly HH does not do that, but a simple phone call seems to increase the odds greatly.
