The more I read and think about this the more I think Hilton really needs to issue a certain number of Suite upgrade certificates to Diamonds (using some sort of calculations/ratio) and enable them to book the upgrades themselves when its most meaningful to them in addition to the current Roulette. At the very least set a window for them to go online and check-in and claim an available suite upgrade during a certain window prior to the official check-in time (such as 24/36 hours in advance) and anything not claimed by that time can go the current hodge podge method.
I would love to see the certs as a benefit, that would be great for family lesiure travel, we would be assured a suite at a cheaper rate when I really want it.
I would love to see a diamond level added like SPG has for people who actually stay at hotels. If you stay so many nights at SPG there is a higher level and you are given priority for upgrades over anyone else (problem is getting Hilton to honor that at the front desk) as well as additional points. This helps to insure that their Platinums who actually staying at hotels get upgrade priority over people who have their status through credit cards or have lifetime status and don't stay at SPG's much anymore.
