The ticket must be a CONFIRMED one (i.e. not standby). Whether it was paid or award is irrelevant to Chinese Immigration. Doesn't matter if it's on one ticket, separate tickets, separate airlines, alliances, etc. As long as the scheduled departure of the flight is to a 3rd country and not more than 24 or 72 hours after the scheduled arrival. The exact time the passport was stamped is irrelevant. Time limit depends on which airport(s) you are transiting and what your passport is.
