Do not confuse the nature of the events. It is far from apple to apple other than points are lost but the reasons behind it are completely different.
It is of totally different nature - the person who lost the points stemmed from Chase did not like ONE of his businesses and decided to close accounts associated with THAT particular business which is "crowd-funding", even the OP admitted it was a controversial business model. All his other accounts from banking to cards with Chase, remain intact.
Very different from what Citi is currently doing - that is shutting down accounts that purchase a commonly available consumer product pretty much everywhere in the nation in various stores and probably being bought thousands times a day.
