yes, The small retail shop I speak of was opened by the largest processor of salmon & whitefish in the Midwest, this guy goes through the VOLUME assuring me of fresh seafood.
Buying from a wholesaler does a lot for lowering the price vrs a buying from a retailer like While Foods or fish monger specialty shops (most of which are in higher net worth/retail areas). This guy is across from an Aldi in a very blue collar town.
I recently took a cooking class from one of the fish monger shops in Chicago (Lincoln Park area), this shop had King Salmon for $19.99lb and most attendees thought it was a bargain at that price.
Most urban areas have shop(s) that allow one to buy from wholesalers, just have to find them.
