The situation I'm considering is the following:

I've already booked a flight from US--HKG on CX using AA miles and am planning to book a new award HKG to Australia also using AA miles, but since I don't have enough miles, my sister, who has top-tier status with AA and therefore pays no change or cancellation fees, has offered to book us the HKG-Australia ticket. I think that this will result in two PNRs.

The rub is that we would only have 50 mins, the MCT, to make the onward connection. This is of course very tight and I would not ordinarily consider booking two separate tickets in this scenario.

However, I know that AA will re-accommodate pax who miss a connection even on a separate ticket, so long as the earlier ticket is also on One World. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/ameri...s-tickets.html. I was wondering if CX has such a policy? If so, does anyone know what kind of luck I would have trying to get agents at HKG to re-accommodate us in the (somewhat likely) event things go wrong?

Would I have to wait for award availability before I would be re-accommodated?

I would appreciate any advice you can offer!!
CX is very good about accommodating people in the event of IRROPS.
(Then again I didn't fly very much without status.)
They could also reroute you HKG-SYD-XXX where SYD-XXX is on QF.
