Fly with the airline that gives you the best connection and fare. SQ is not that spectacular in economy. Its about the same as EK .. and SQ doesn't fly to CHI so you'd have to get connection fares which you need to see a TA for.

Though one advantage of flying SQ is that you could earn some miles on a Star Alliance carrier, e.g., United (a typical routing, ORD-SFO-ICN-SIN-HYD, would earn nearly 25,000 miles for each passenger round-trip), that could be useful for you being based in Chicago. Emirates miles would presumably be less valuable for you if you don't travel long-haul frequently.
