Remember - these planes will be around for a good part of this decade. We should be thinking "what will people be doing wrt IFE in five years". Technology certainly will be much more entrenched in the flying public then.
Fine then leave the existing IFE in place in the intervening 5 years for transition.
And Why are they putting screens in the brand new 787s? Surely those should have been delivered blank as they will be flying a decade from now, when everyone will have multiple devices in each of their pants pockets. Are they not thinking about technology "5 years from now" when it came to the 787??
