Though I have had an interesting / disturbing experience in activating my first Chase card. The automatic system identified itself as Simon's Gift Card. In case people do not know, Simon is a major owner of shopping malls. I was like ???. Then after entering the card number it said my card number was invalid. After 3 failed attempts the system routed me to a CSR who seemed to be based in India. I told the CSR the system said my card was invalid when I tried to activate it. The CSR said he saw my card was routed to the "wrong dept". That I needed to hang up and call the same number again. I asked how that could happen? He said sometimes this mistake would happen. He corrected it now and I would get to the right dept.

When I called the number again, instead of an automatic system, I got a CSR. I told the CSR what was going on. She was able to activate my card, but told me I had to call again to get my PIN. Since I have 2 cards so I asked her to activate the 2nd one. It took her a bit longer to activate the 2nd one. Then same thing, she told me to call again to get the PIN.

On the 3rd call, I finally got the "correct" automatic system as this time the greeting message identified itself as Chase Gift Card... and I was able to get the PIN on each card (have to do separate calls as there is no option for "another card".)

Unloaded these cards 3 hours later at WM.
