I recently booked a GM colleague IAD-LAX. He paid $79 each way for an E+ aisle seat. If he does similar transcon roundtrips in paid E+ four more times this year, which is quite possible, he'll have no status and have paid nearly $800 in E+ fees. So this annual option could make a lot of financial sense for flyers like him.
