Typical SJC-BUR Load?

I am new to flying by myself and am moving from LA to the Bay Area. My family is in LA so I will be flying frequently, usually SJC-BUR most likely on Southwest.
I've read multiple opinions about this particular route from flights being "70% full" to "filled to the grill". What is the typical passenger load on the SJC-BUR and BUR-SJC route on Southwest? Since time probably matters, I'd likely be leaving SJC on their latest flight (9-10pm) and leaving BUR either on their latest flight, or on the 8:30am-ish flight the next day (the cheaper flight after the morning rush at 7:30).
Also, is Early Bird Check In worth it on this route? I purchased it since it is my first time, but I am curious what others think.
