Newb here and still trying to understand: I have to go from IAH to SFO at least once a month to visit family.
The cost is typically $200 one-way. If I purposely find the longest route for the same $200 for extra miles (I would not spend more $$ then the original price), is that considered a MR? Or a faux MR?

What are true MRs? Only flying to gain miles? I have to go to SFO regardless and decided to go a little out of the ways for extra miles, i do NOT intend to spend extra money, however am willing to spend extra time for free miles (used for free award trips, i dont need/want status/upgrades). I should also add that I would never fly to a destination unless its absolutely required (work, family & friends vacay, etc) Is that called a mini/faux/pseudo MR? . thanks guys.
