The collapsed bridge is Gate 71's L2 bridge. Perhaps HKAA wants to check all L2 bridges before giving the airlines the all-clear to use the L2 bridge again?
I read that the L2 bridge was being detached at the time and was driven into or collapsed into the still attached L1; the was door open so was ripped off and the crash brought both bridges down. Maybe the single bridge operation for the time being is to check procedures for safe use of both bridges.
