You might have booked the worst hotel, or at least the worst hotel location, in Downtown Cowtown. Try and move to anywhere farther east. If you can move to a more central or east side location, then pretty much everything in downtown is walkable. The whole thing is not so big you can't walk and brouse all of it (and for it's size lots of good dining options, with more if you throw in the Stockyards).

Not a half-bad place for short business or conference visit at all, which I assume you are on. Not much true shopping, but a few interesting places to spend a bit of time in (and more if you throw in the Stockyards).
