On my recent flight (777) I was looking at the inflight phone which is built into the handset. For the duration of the flight the display read "Phone service unavailable"

I couldn't find any reference to the phone in the Highlife magazine. I remember there used to be a paragraph or two about its use, as well as the rates, which IIRC were USD 5 per minute.

Has BA pulled the plug on this service?

Did anyone actually use the service? - I was tempted to give it a go for a couple of minutes mainly due to the "Hi honey - I''m on the plane!" novelty value
