We used to go off into the wilds for a week or two and then come back to three or four days at Amandari or the Oberoi - to Flores for the Komodo dragons; to the Banda Islands for the sheer beauty of it all; to West Papua for extraordinary culture; to Sumatra and Kalimantan for nature trips. All you need is a bit of the spirit of adventure...Indonesia isn't just Bali, you know. And if you really want to appreciate Amandari or one of the others, stay in a losmen for a few days beforehand.
