I've been using TrueCrypt for probably 5 years or so, what I like the most is that you don't have a massive slowdown pushing files in or out of the encrypted volume.
(hopefully someone can solve your bookmarks issue, cause I'd like to know the answer to it too

Lol. No answer for now. The easiest way was to create a separate account on my mac and sync icloud through there. Then in Safari, I would have to manually open up the reading list and just add to bookmarks one by one. Its must faster with a mouse on a desk/laptop. Took me about an hour to transfer it all, a lot less than I thought it would take.
