In such circumstances people generally drink "purified water". It's purified via Reverse Osmosis but then they add minerals (mainly magnesium sulfate). So it's really DI water with minerals added back in.

Here I am talking about major purified water brands like Dasani, Aquafina and Nestle's Pure Life. The latter is ubiquitous in developing countries.
