My take-away is that having backup cards from different issuers is a good idea.
....and allow me to add my experience today that the "Diners Club" card issued in USA by Harris/BMO does NOT work at RER ticket machine, even though this Diners Club is a "true" chip-and-pin with the pin encoded on the chip, so the pin is not change-able.
