BTW - we've had reports on FT of people doing it successfully (usually by having their name on the reservation too), but the Cat 1-4s technically aren't transferable - ie, they're supposed to be used by the MR member for him/her self.

Because you're not transferring the cert if *you* book the room using your account and the cert/points within, even if you allow someone else to stay. I'm saying that the certs are akin to award stays, where Marriott has no issue if you book for a friend, etc. Same as the airlines allow with their awards. If there are specific terms that prohibit, please correct me, but I haven't been able to find anything prohibiting this.
