And how is that different to a normal baggage tag that you should have on your bags that should have your name and contact details?

Not that it makes a huge difference.....
if anything, it increase your "security protection".
Those that
do peak around can only see your Name + MPC number.
While "normal" baggage tag would consist of your name, phone number, address, whatever you decided to write on there.
If your luggage ever does get lost, and you needed to be contact. MPC / CX would have access to your more "personal" information by looking up your MPC number.
