The nice thing about the longer flight is that you have time to have a leisurely dinner, read or watch something and get a good nights sleep (bring your own earplugs). It's hard to fit that all in ORD-LHR. Plus often the ORD flights with R available arrive at LHR at 5:55am - do you have a place to go then?
I agree with this. A longer non-stop flight has its advantages.

Also, with a connection there is always a chance of a misconnect, leading to a delay and possibly to a downgrade.
