So, which would you choose? Take the certain upgrade with a stop in ORD or take a chance and just do E+ with fingers crossed for the upgrade?

Thanks
SFO to London at this time of the year has the 747 - the upper deck experience in C is wonderful! (just arrived at LHR on one)

If:
(a) you are a 1K (or GS) AND
(b) if you are willing to buy a higher fare than the minimum upgradeable fare - a Q fare at least AND
(c) if you are traveling Tues to Thursday outbound

you are "almost certain" to clear. (although you might be downstairs in C)

But, check the seat map and see how full things look...

The nice thing about the longer flight is that you have time to have a leisurely dinner, read or watch something and get a good nights sleep (bring your own earplugs). It's hard to fit that all in ORD-LHR. Plus often the ORD flights with R available arrive at LHR at 5:55am - do you have a place to go then?
