Yep - you can text yourself. Weird but true.

I would imagine it would work the same way on a Mac. My Mac is reaching its arthritic old age and I don't mess around with it much these days...replacing it in a couple of months.
Not so weird because the message will simply get sent to the service centre where it will be processed for billing and then sent to the number specified. The service centre doesn't care if you're sending it back to yourself or some other number.
