I haven't flown that route on a 3 cabin plane, but I'm guessing since HNL is normally a modified full service (on 2 cabin planes it's BF lite) that you won't get the true GF product. Plus you'll be upgrading from coach so you'll only get to business (you can't double upgrade). All that being said, I THINK you can use 1 regional to get 1 cabin upgrade all the way to MNL if you can find someone to sponsor you. Others who fly to Asia more will chime in I'm sure.
Thanks for the response. I can't upgrade with an instrument as I don't have any. I do have miles and cash.
I checked the IAH-HNL portion of UA201 and the seat chart shows United First, United Business, Economy Plus and United Economy. So, you may be correct that there is not Global First cabin/service on that flight segment.
