Landing in Delhi Feb 16, flying to Singapore Feb 19 (this is less than 72hrs).
Now obviously I am not going to stay in the airport for the whole 3 nights. I have booked myself a hotel in Delhi, and will be doing a bit of sightseeing, including a daytrip to the Taj Mahal.
Now because this is less than 72hrs, I am hoping I qualify for a transit visa, which is free. However,
I guess the purpose of my visit is tourism...

Transit Visa is virtually free (maybe a nominal fee), Tourist Visa is now £92 for UK citizens. So quite a big difference.

If u want, u can try applying for transit visa.. but you never know since your purpose is tourism and you should ideally get a tourist visa as per the rules..
Even if they reject the transit visa, u may apply for a tourist visa later but am not sure of the consequences of a visa rejection..
I always personally visit the concerned embassy if am confused on the type of visa needed during application and then mark the application form accordingly..
