I once went to a Japanese restaurant in the U.S. with some Japanese people, and they asked the waiter if there was a special menu. Out came some menus printed in Japanese only, featuring foods that most Americans have never heard of unless they have lived in Japan.

I've also been in Chinese restaurants where there's a blackboard with specials written only in Chinese characters.
