I just called again and in < 5 minutes the polite agent had the rese split. I'm reminded that these situations are totally dependent on the willingness/helpfulness of the rep you get. Now I just need to figure out if a 16 minute connection in IAH is possible. I'm def nervous.

Pretty sure 16 minutes in IAH violates the Minimum Connection Time (MCT). Glad to hear you were able to get your direct flight split.

Alas, after posting about how it was possible, I just got told that IAD-KWI-BAH is not allowed to be split because of local rules.
