It is doubtful such a case would be the choice for modern traveling, unless one were taking an ocean cruise, the entire Orient Express, or a Trans Europa nostalgia run. The excess baggage fees would be very costly.
Such luggage cases are highly prized for antique car and vintage boat exhibitions and displays in the same time period.
I guess something like the
Steamline Luggage:
The Diplomat Series: Stowaway (checked, 23.6" x 14.6" x 8.3", 11.29 lbs, 495,00 €)
The Correspondent Series: Stowaway (checked, 22.8" x 13.8" x 8.3", 11.02 lbs, 459,00 €)
The Correspondent Series: CarryOn (19.7" x 13.4" x 7.9", 9.74 lbs, 450,00 €)
would be the "modern" interpretation of such antique Rimowa luggage.
Judging from the looks of those cases, I would have thought that they would've been heavier though. The checked pieces aren't particularly huge though.
Never really seen someone rolling through an airport with such luggage though. I certainly can't imagine myself rolling around with one of those bags. I guess they are appealing to a "niche" market.
