I went to 2 different CVS this morning and both stated that the transaction needed an "alternate payment method". I was able to buy a Vanilla Reload this Monday with my Chase Sapphire.
Am I missing something? Are AMEX SPGs not allowed for gift cards?

I have had a 50/50 success rate with my SPG card buying vr and PayPal reloads. When I get the message to try another payment method, usually by the time I get to the car, Amex is calling me to verify activity and check for fraud. I have also gotten the message with citi aa, chase united, ink bold, prepaid Amex, vanilla gift cards, you name it. I have also been able to use all of these methods without incident so I think it is random also. But the SPG card seems to set it off the most.
I have also had my Amex prg card get shut down multiple times at Safeway and pavilions by the fraud early warning dept for buying Nordstrom and other similar type gcs
On a related note, has anyone else had trouble with the monthly load limits not resetting for PayPal reload cards? I have tried calling PayPal cs and gotten no where.
