Are you willing to work with them? They may acknowledge the mistake, and be willing to accommodate you on their metal in F. Maybe their problem is paying AC for F, and a compromise solution would be to route YVR-SFO-HNL in F on UA.
This is a good idea. I may call them again to see if that's possible. They found the mistake--or replicated it (i.e. while I was on hold) but I have nothing on paper that they admitted a mistake.
I'd buy the A etc. but it clearly says first right next to it. As for how it swaps out with Air Canada....not sure...but not really information I am privy to.
