Therefore, there should be no need to claim bags in CLT, or even re-clear security, since pre-cleared passengers are treated the same as domestic passengers on arrival.

That being said, do double-check with the Canadian check-in staff to make sure that your bags are checked through to Europe, and then confirm this on your bag claim receipt.

And do realize that on the return, this is not true--flying from Europe to Canada via the US will require you to claim your bags and clear immigration/customs at the US transit airport.
