same situation, same route happened to me. I was the last to board, and find a man in my seat (2E). I politely inform the man that he's in my seat. He tells me that my seat is back there, 6E (right next to the lav). Uh, nope, my seat is 2E. He tells me he's with his son (who is in 2F). Totally unacceptable. I used to seat poach in these cases, before realizing how bad it looked. I figured that it made things easier. And I was never turned down in those cases. But I always asked politely and would gladly have moved away if asked to do so.
Now we do it from our assigned seats and move if permitted....the way it should be.
