S3 (and most other high-end Android handsets) have a lot of advantages over the iPhones -- bigger screens, SD card support, sideloading, free-er market, a lot more customization options in the software. But the difference between different super-high resolution screens, the processor speeds (it's not like you're ever going to be able to run desktop software on these), and the camera resolutions (especially given the tiny sensors and high f/number lenses) seem to have passed the point of utility already with the S4 not even out yet.
Seems rather like the dedicated-camera megapixel wars a few years ago; heck, rather literally in the case of the cameras in phones.
*shrug* People keep buy them, so more power to them, but I can't help but think the real competition to both the high end of Samsung AND Apple is the feature-set of high end phones today moving into cheapies from Pantech and Huawei (and lower end Samsungs), etc. There's only going to be so long that people are going to be willing to keep buying more features with a $700 (unsubsidized) high end phone when a $200 unsubsidized phone gets to be good enough. They're not here yet, but they will be sooner than Apple will like. Won't hurt Samsung nearly as much, as they're selling tons of midrange android here in the states and tons of cheapie android elsewhere.
