Yes it is a great idea for countries with a different alphabet, but it should be switchable. For a start there is no logical reason to transliterate Calle to Street and Carrera to Road in a country with a numbered grid system.

The "always in English function" did actually translate everything, but turning it off gave you a Spanglish map" where some roads (or carreras) had both English and Spanish names.

I forget where the option to turn on "Always in English" but I have an iphone 4 so it definitely exists.
