Woudn't an aisle in Economy Comfort in many ways offer more legroom than the bulkhead seats on many planes?
How would a GA react to my saying that if the only upgrade available is to the bulkhead, and I'll stick with my EC or exit row seat?
I'm relatively sure that if you're called up for BF upgrade, you can just decline it and they'll give it to the next person. And on the MD90s (not sure about MD88), the first row of EC is actually quite nice, since there's just the soft wall so you still have legroom/storage under the last row of F.
What I would NOT advise is boarding and trying to trade with someone in EC. That UG should go to the next medallion, not the lucky rando who's in the seat you just vacated (which would potentially be someone on an E fare who lucked into it as the last seat available).
