It's not as good as the app, but it's better than Apple Maps.

The lack of walking/public transit directions is particularly troubling to me on Apple Maps. What was Apple thinking?
Thermonuclear war on Google. Stupid to make customers the casualty.

Google Maps application removal is a very customer-unfriendly move. I had come to use it as much or more than even my Navigon and TomTom apps. The Safari workaround is nice but it means location services have to be granted to Safari as a whole than just to the maps.
