Not sure. As long as I put the old one back in, I would imagine it would be difficult for them to tell unless there was something hidden. I didn't break a seal or anything like that. If they won't replace it, then it's a little bit of a bummer, but still doesn't compare to my happiness of being able to get the files off (and, not going to lie, my happiness of being able to fix it "myself" as well).

Also, I was curious if anyone could help me with this:
I recently shipped my computer and when the graphics card is inserted, there's no video output (whether I'm using onboard graphics or not). When I take out the graphics card, video output works fine-through onboard graphics.

Do you think this is a malfunctioning MB or graphics card? The definitive way to find out would be to install another graphics card and see what happens, but I'm hoping that won't be necessary since I don't have a spare one.

Do you think it would be better to file for warranty replacement with the part manufacturer or file a claim with Fedex? (I insured the package for $3K, but would only be asking for a couple hundred depending on whether it's a MB or graphics card issue-both were purchased within the last 2 months so I still have receipts)
