She's far more likely to call herself his "student" rather than pupil.....
Adults are very rarely called pupils in any field these days, its very much a word used to describe schoolchildren, and particularly younger schoolchildren. My 16 yr old daughter and her peers are called "students" by the school - and have been since they went into year 10
Even a trainee barrister is known as a trainee barrister in general conversation - even though they are still in pupillage.
