I for one certainly hope they do not pull out of Appleton. But I would not be completely surprised. Two weeks ago I was on ORD-ATW on a weekday morning with about 10 other passengers and when I returned to ORD that same evening the load was even lighter.
But sometimes the flights are packed and fares are sky high, so perhaps the route is profitable. Or perhaps the route is "strategic" for reasons we don't know about.
This was part of a multi-leg journey. I wouldn't recommend flying to Appleton for a trip originating and ending in Chicago.
Flight loads / profitability are irrelevant in this decision.
The key is who the congressperson for the Appleton area is, and whether they have the clout/seniority to keep having ATW service subsidized.
