Thanks. In the U.S. too, a public school means state school. Having attended a public school in the English sense of the word, I should have thought of it.
What's a state school in England? Grammar school, or council school?
Is there a definition of a public school in England? It's a private school, but being a private school alone does not make it a public school, does it?
In some countries Govt provided housing is a perk that comes with some jobs. If you live in Govt housing in the U.S., with the exception of the White House, the Naval Observatory and Governor's mansions, or such officials, you are a lazy bum on the dole.
