Don't worry about tickets selling out unless you are taking a car. There
is also the slower ferry (aremiti - no number). Stick with the catamaran.
As for things to do that early, you can take a walk and check out the central market. It won't be busy so early but a few stalls should be opening.
I had no luck with early check in at Hilton moorea. I arrived around 1:30 and was offered a shower at the gym and then told I could hang out by the pool. I was not offered any sort of rest room. Im a diamond and was staying with points.
