I just returned from another stay at the Hilton Moorea. This is not a full report, but wanted to let ya'll know that the food is much better than a few years ago. The head chef revamped the menu and it is very good, but make sure if you are sensitive to undercooked seafood that you make them cook it longer. Most of the time we had great meals, but we did make them re-cook one of our seafood dishes and then the surf and turf buffet had one skillet of fish that may have had some Scombroid contaminated pieces of Mahi-Mahi (spoiled) that resulting in my wife getting food poisoning at the end of our trip (I didn’t eat the same thing). But, that was a rarity and we still like this resort very much. The staff were excellent at their concern and care for my wife and I commend the front desk staff as well as Dinah, Gaille and the room service staff that brought her apple juice and white rice to try to help her get hydrated. CSA Trip Insurance sent a doctor to our bungalow to give her some medication too. If it wasn’t for that care I would have had to take her to the hospital. They also credited the meal in question. Overall, great food this time and the head chef, from France, also worked for years in the U.S. and at the Ritz in the Cayman Islands. So, he really knows what Americans and French like. Before it was more Asian influenced, but now they have a good variety. Again, the one food problem my wife experienced was rare and could have happened anywhere and in fact we both have had food poisoning in the past in the U.S. and the symptoms she experienced were identical.

Also, if you don't get your beloved OWB on the ends, don't be discouraged. The ends are VERY windy. In fact we experienced more windy conditions the second week than at any time in our previous stay. It was constant 30 MPH winds and that means a lot of noise (the worst was room #87 since it has no protection. Had friends in the #105 to #109 area and it wasn't as bad, but still windy. We stayed in #87 again and it has a bad ant problem now even if you don't have any food out. Those small ants (we find them on most island vacations) were everywhere, from the bathroom countertop and closet shelves to the sofa. Constantly shaking out your clothes is no fun. The staff did mop and clean one time using something the ants don't like, but it only took a day and they returned. Did we enjoy our stay? Absolutely!!! Just know what to expect. I do hope they really do something to get rid of the ants though. They need to spray the inside perimeters as well as underneath of the bungalow. I also have a koi pond at home and realize the caution one must take when using pesticides around aquatic life, but it can be done directly on the underside of the bungalow and the interior without harming the sea life if you direct spray, plus the fact the lagoon has a fresh constant current to help. It would take dosing the sea with a LOT to have any noticeable impact, so it can be done safely.
The resort is beautiful and the staff is friendly. The island of Moorea is a garden of Eden. Don’t let what I’ve warned about scare you.

PS: we saw a lot of species of sealife at the Hilton including pufferfish, titan triggerfish, octopus, lots of Picaso triggerfish, and many many more. Great place to snorkel right off from your deck.

Do yourself a favor and visit the Lagoonarium at a small motu on the southeast side of Moorea. Best snorkeling we've ever experienced. Incredibly coral gardens, friendly Mooray eels, BIG fish, rays and reef sharks (don't be scared) and they have rope lines throughout so you can support yourself if the current is too strong for you. Wilfred is very nice and doesn't charge much to take you to his family's little oasis. About $29 USD per person and you get a cute little beach hut to change in, stay, get out of the sun, relax. It's worth renting a car to get to.
