You'll likely have to go through customs when you arrive, collect your bags and re-check them, though I could be wrong -- if you're at the same section of gates and they're able to check your bags through that would make life much easier. From my experience the flights to and from the US use one area of the terminal and the international flights are in a slightly different area. I have never done a connecting flight through YVR, just arrived and departed there so that is not my expertise. But it is nothing like O'Hare or LHR, it is a very small airport in comparison.
I have transited thru YVR before (LAX-YVR-HKG) and it is extremely simple. Nice transit security and we were done. Bags checked all the way thru. However, when I did that my connection was so long that I didn't even look at the MCT. But the connection I am looking at (SFO-YVR-LHR) is only 79 minutes.
I wonder if it is M=Main and S=South?? But why would that allow a shorter time? It would seem that staying in the main terminal would allow a shorter time...
There are exceptions listed in the KVS output, but without knowing M vs S, I can't tell if they apply.
