On the other spectrum, we have an 11 hour layover coming in from BKK heading to YVR. Having never been to NRT what would people recommend to as a distraction from hanging out in the lounge. Is there a problem with checked baggage and/or a place to store carry on while exploring?

I would exit, check out the mini-mall, and go upstairs for some sushi or ramen.
Or Narita Express or Kesei Express it and do the same for a few hours. Give plenty of time for the NEX KEX back to NRT especially if you're travelling OUT of Tokyo from 1500-1900, delays CAN and sometimes DO happen, particularly during rush hour.
