Part of me agrees with you, but the reason I wish DL didn't call in the LEO's is this just gives more publicity to this d-bag. If the matter was dropped onboard, all this pax could complain about is the FA 'lying' to him, hardly much of a sin since it was probably nothing more than a harmless mistake on the part of the FA.
About the only way it could have been harmful is if having to talk to the police for a minute or two caused the passenger to miss a connection -- then the question becomes "whose fault is it ?"
This case ranks with the time I used boarding passes for a couple of flights printed on two sided paper and the TSA agent inspecting boarding passes looked at the wrong side and didn't think to turn the page over !
