I've been in this situation myself in the past. I seem to recall that the stamp doesn't have to be VERY recent - I'm thinking maybe up to a year old, but I'm not sure.

A further potential snag is that the Philippines might be one of those countries that requires posession, on arrival, of an onward ticket out of the country. So if you don't already have your onward ticket sorted out, HA might not accept you on their flight to MNL.
For what its worth, I asked in the UA forum and this ticketing special requirement seems to be only with AA. I was told that I am able to ticket over the internet and did a dummy booking on UA using TG and it allowed me to book. In this case I am going to use UA miles and avoid this hassle.

One question to you folks who have connected/departed ex MNL, can you stay airside to connect onwards without going through immigration thereby not needing to pay whatever fee they hit you with? And does anyone know if HA and TG have an interline agreement for checked bags?
