The quoted clause is in exact wording in the fare rules, so there should be no self-interpretation problem.
What is the exact fare basis?

On the EK eticket pdf, at the bottom is a Fare calculations section which has contents such as

9.41 EK SIN 2105.91FRTSG4 NUC3594.94END END ROE1.28

What is the content of that line? That will give the fare basis which may be checkable online to see what online tools report

Also on the eticket, for the sectors from NCL back to BKK, there is a column which states "COUPON VALIDITY" and has a date associated with each sector. What are the dates of validity for the remaining sectors

If he doesn't want to leave NCL earlier that should be ok but I doubt that the stopover will be permitted

Was the ticket purchased directly from Emirates?
