That's what I do for the wife and they have always extended the platinum benefits to her. She only travels 2x per year on average so not exactly abusing the system.

Heck I made award reservations for friends in New Orleans for jazzfest (even called to give them the name of the people who will be checking in prior to arrival) and they still treated them with platinum benefits and credited my account with the points.

Completely unexpected and appreciated.
