But there are saving graces....

First, the space between the hall door and its threshold is often enough to provide enough light by which to read the newspaper, and in many highway-side hotels, the blackout curtains are unable to block the light (adequate for an NBA night game) from the parking lot.
I've perfected the art of going to the loo in the middle of the night at home - I can do so without opening my eyes (helps me go back to sleep more quickly). However, when in hotels, I usually only realize I am not actually at home when my route to the loo a) makes me smack straight into something or b) I go to open the loo lid and it isn't there!

Fortunately my feet are starting to cooperate, and now tile floors (usually only found in hot countries) clue me in that it is not my bedroom floor! Carpet, they are still working on the nuances!!
